Driving Question:

​How can we inform ZQuest 1st-2nd graders about the impact the Mayans had on us?            

Standards:

• Elementary Science Stds:  2.2N.Ga & 4.1N.a
  

Team / Culture Building:

• Successful Teams: Allow students to choose their groups for this first, short PBL?
• Build culture by modeling behavior that is desired by  students

Entry Event:

• Watch an introductory video about the Mayan culture​​

Stakeholders:

• ZQuest 1st-2nd graders

Empathy Building:

• Create a PAINS/GAINS chart

Inquiry / Need to Knows:

•  Make a T-chart of “Knows” and “Need to knows”​

• Introduce new vocabulary words
• Online research 
• Create a Padlet for groups to document their ideas.

Incubation:

• Anti-Problem protocol​

• Idea Quota protocol​

Solution Building:

• Gallery Walk - students highlight their 100 ideas

Critique and Revision: 

• ​ Following the Gallery Walk students will use the Dot Voting strategy to narrow ideas.
• Next, they will practice the Where is the love? protocol
• Followed by giving feedback in the form of- I like  . . . and I wonder . . . statements.

Authentic Audience:

• 1st-2nd grade students
  

Final Presentation:

• Students will be allowed to choose what their product will be after brainstorming ideas and interviewing relevant people to the authentic audience as to what may be appropriate.​
