Protocol Overview and Instructions:
The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District’s (OAISD) futurePREP Program is the strategic implementation of our community’s
vision that all students need (1) to graduate with two “transcripts” . . . academic skills and career readiness skills . . . and (2) a system
for measuring their progress toward those goals, and (3) robust opportunities to attain them.

Educator Thoughts:
I am going to have students do a character profile of what an individual with great communication looks like and what an individual with poor communication looks like. After we go through that we will talk more in depth about what they came up with. I ended up talking about the importance of body language and asked students to give me examples of the message being sent by body language. We were able to see how there was a lot of room for interpretation.
For communication I really wanted to focus on body language and specifically have students identify what great and poor body language is. I think this will help students be more intentional about their body language and think about how they care themselves. I thought it went well and was in a timely place with the new trimester starting today.
Student & Teacher Quote:
“Body language leaves a lot space for interpretation, so make sure that you are intentional with the message you are sending. This first week of the new trimester is even more important to have great body language.”
Meet the Educator:
Cody Buresh has been teaching Social Studies at Hamilton Flex for 8 years now and have been doing the Future Prep’d experiences for nearly 7 years now. I have created many PBLs as well as revamping our curriculum to try an incorporate skill for success as well as protocols that really enhance the learning experience for our students. I love giving students ownership of their learning through the design/creative thinking process. It is powerful and rewarding when as an educator you can step back and see real world skills come into play while learning at the same time. |
