Protocol Overview and Instructions:
The Empathy Map is a tool for emphatic target group analysis and helps users to perceive their own feelings better and to empathize with their own actions. The aim is to gain a deep insight into
potential users by answering as many open WH questions as possible. Each interview or each test can be documented individually with an Empathy Map, in order to be able to create a persona from the
findings.

Educator Thoughts:
At the beginning of each season (fall, winter, spring, summer) in PE, I have students create an empathy map using the question-”What does a Physically Literate individual think, see, say, do, feel, etc. in this season?” With my upper elementary students, I have them break up into groups to draw and then share out. We do it as a class with my lower elementary students.
"I really enjoy this protocol because students are able to think and share how they move their bodies in different seasons and also gets others thinking of what resources are around them to keep them moving year round."
Meet the Educator:
I have taught Health and Physical Education for 12 years in Grand Haven. For the last 6 years, I have taught Young 5s-4th grade PE at Mary A. White Elementary and Rosy Mound. I graduated from Michigan State University with a Kinesiology degree and then went on to earn my Master’s in Educational Leadership from MSU as well. "I enjoy thinking outside of the box and giving my students unique experiences in PE. I intentionally try to stay away from traditional sports/activities and add something so that they remember what we do and why we do it. Incorporating PBL into my teaching was a no-brainer because it makes such an impactful experience for students and makes them think in ways they wouldn’t otherwise..." |
