       Designing a New CTE Space

Project at a Glance :
​
Jenison Public Schools has a bond proposal for the next couple of years and wants students to create a plan for their ideal CTE (Career & Technical Education) space. This project can be adapted to other spaces or an actual business in the future.

Driving Question:

How can JPS design a new space to accommodate growing Career & Technical Education Programs?

Team / Culture Building:
  • These are returning students that the teacher is familiar with their strengths and weaknesses.  Students will be grouped using the Which Department is Best for Me?,  by completing an Enneagram test, and completing THIS PROJECT.​​

  • Visit in person or virtually Hudsonville High School, Fruitport High School, and/or OAISD to see their new CTE spaces.
  • Fishbowl (charades) activity with words about classrooms/businesses.

Empathy Building:
  • ​Students will create Empathy Maps for various Stakeholders.

Solution Building:
  • Students will share their research and create solutions as a group.
  • Followed by using the Dot Voting strategy to narrow down ideas.​

Critique and Revision: 
  •  After the dot vote, they will do the $100 Test to create different budgets for various solution ideas.
  • Use the Feedback Capture Grid to organize ideas.

Final Presentation:
  • Presentations will be done in person using Canva resources as well as blueprints or 3D models.​

Reflection and Feedback:
  • Use a rubric similar to the Future Prep’d one for feedback. 
  • Students will be given points throughout project for successfully completing protocols.
  • Students will do a group reflection and then an individual reflection. The CTE teachers will give feedback to groups.​

Jordan Whittecar teaches Business and Marketing classes at Jenison High School in Jenison, MI, as well as serves on the Michigan Marketing Educators Board and is a DECA Advisor.
