Project at a Glance :

This is a project for 10th-12th graders incorporating Geometry, Personal Finance, and Environmental Science skills. They will use what they have learned in these classes to design and plan a community garden.
 
Driving Question:


How can Allendale High School students build a community garden to benefit the community and students?

Standards:
  • Students will calculate area, perimeter, and volume of various geometric shapes to design garden plots
  • Students will research and select suitable plants for the community garden based on climate, cost, and maintenance requirements
  • Students will create a detailed budget for the garden project, including cost for material and plants.
  • Students will present their garden design and budget plan to school leadership, demonstrating their understanding through blueprints or models.

  • Stakeholder Map - students worked with their groups to come up with stakeholders that would be affected by the solution to the driving question.

  • Students sent a survey out to gather information from stakeholders.

Incubation:
  • How would _____ solve it? - students put themselves in the shoes of different people/businesses to think about how they might answer the driving question. Students thought about how Countryside Greenhouse, landscapers, construction people, Amazon, etc would answer the question.
