How can we design a training room/environment that meets the educational and technology needs of the firefighters and out community partners?
Our experience . . .
"Working with the GH Township Fire/Rescue was a privilege. Chief Schrader and all of the firefighters made us feel welcome and went above and beyond to help us as mentors and feeling welcome and with any questions we had. This was a phenomenal experience for the kids in a real world environment with an exciting Driving Question." ~ J. Warren, Educator
"I loved Future PREP'd, it taught me a lot about what it is like to help with a project. Everyone took me seriously and it felt like I was making a difference. The mentor meetings helped me to learn more about other people's journey's down their career path and how I can make my career a successful one." ~ Brennan M., Student

How can GH Township Fire & Rescue create a SOP/Guidelines “template” for promotion ceremonies that can be applied per “tier” and is replicable nationwide?
Our experience . . .
"We were grateful to work with Grand Haven Township Fire & Rescue Department and Chief Schrader and his team. We were asked to create a protocol for firefighters' promotional ceremonies––and we were honored to be trusted with something that was so close to Chief Schrader's heart. Our team of students jumped into this prompt, realizing the gravity of their work, and delivered an impressive presentation and plan for moving forward. We were very proud of them!" ~ G. Schemper, Educator
"Using the design thinking process and PBL with our team at Grand Haven Twp Fire and Rescue provided an awesome support structure for reaching our goal of creating a handbook for promotional ceremonies. The protocols and creative sequence helped our team build empathy for our partner, as well as authentically ideate and prototype solutions to the driving question. The team's final "pitch" presentation reflected the meaningful experience these students had learning about the many unique facets of the fire prevention and fire fighting industry, fire fighting and rescue as a career field, as well as the strong sense of community that a fire department embodies. The design thinking process allowed for students to learn all of this with an incredible amount of empathy in order to then create a right-fit solution to the driving question that could be immediately implemented. I cannot think of another method that would allow for such an unforgettable, in-depth learning experience." ~ K. Renes, Educator
